Catastrophe

Mia books

I’m so refined I take my dinner on a silver platter

and drink from the finest crystal.  Nothing but the best

will do.

I’ll thank you to have it prepared at precisely

the time I demand and maybe even reward you with a gift

or two –

a serenade of contentment

or a velvety soft mouse

lovingly placed in your shoe.

I pose for your photos,

bounce colorful balls of yarn

and swat at that ridiculous plastic fish

on a loop.

When the day is done

and you retire to your room

all is quiet

except for me,

chasing my tail across the moon.

We’re anthropomorphizing (giving human characteristics to animals) over at D’Verse Poets Pub – hosted by Lillian.

Day 4: NaPoWriMo – secrets abound.

Day 4:  Poetic Asides – Two for Tuesday (beginning and ending).

Oh so beautiful! I have two cats: Luna is aloof, Mojo is the one who chases her tail across the moon!

Thank you! Isn’t it funny that they each have their own personality? Just like people. We also have two dogs, and they wanted to have their say, but the cat won out as usual. Maybe they’ll get to speak in a future prompt.

Thanks, Frank. Mia is quite the character. I’m still thinking about your crow conversation, and it reminded me that Mia loves to chatter at birds. She’d probably like to eat them more than talk to them.

you have described a contented cat’s life in such beautiful detail and lightly sprinkled humour how we humans pander to their wishes without even realising it. Lovingly done too!

Indeed, this reflex is one of the reasons I am sure us animal people love our critters. Fun.

LOVE it! We had two cats while we lived in Iowa……….and your photo looks exactly like Inkan! 🙂
    Especially loved this line
    “or a velvety soft mouse
    lovingly placed in your shoe.”
They do that right? Like it’s a little gift caught just for you! 🙂
And the ending is purrrrfect! 🙂

Cats have truly figured us humans out – they own us!

  7. Yes cats are picky one… only the best is good, but then they reward us well with that purring

That was her, chasing her tail across the moon in the middle of the night, till we locked her in the front bath at night. The rest is all true; ground tuna pate for breakfast, only running water from the sink to drink served in china. She prefers chewing on fingers to cat toys. But that all in al pretty well sums it all up. But it’s not really anthromorphism, she’s a four legged, furry person

  9. Only a cat-lover could pen these words. We have two cats at our house, who allow us to live with them, and their midnight forays are legendary!

But where is the catastrophe in that? It sounds like the perfect life for Her Majesty the Cat to me!
