The Gift

purple skies

Purple skies

the gift of sunset

and sunrise

morning dew

with opportunities new

wrapped in silhouette

Softly shift

kaleidoscope clouds

float and drift

a whimsy

artist’s palette blossoming

tomorrow unbound.

dVerse – Lillian is hosting at the Pub today and asks us to write poems that include the word “gift”.

Lovely, lovely, lovely… I think we see the same skies Lynn, This piece smothers my mind in imagery, makes my emotion take a step out into an unbound tomorrow and leaves me to ponder.

Thank you, Lillian. And thank you for hosting. I loved this prompt. It could go in so many ways, but I’d taken the picture of clouds a couple days before and when I was looking through pictures, the words just came to me.

I liked the idea of seeing the sun rise and set as gifts rather than as something mechanical we take for granted.

Sometimes in the evening, I can make out the sky from a window above the back door that faces the west. It has a window film to block some of the sun but the reds, pinks, and purples still shine through and I have to run outside to snap a picture. I’m always fascinated by the colors of the sky.
